Led Zeppelin on David Letterman

Lots of complaints today about Letterman and his interview style. Maybe I'm used to it - I used to watch Letterman quite a lot back in his NBC days - but it seemed to me he did a reasonable job. 526936_10100305927096758_882752507_nHis job is to get the guests, and the guys can be reticent, to talk. He does that, not by having all the answer at his fingertips, but by asking open ended questions.

For Plant, Page and Jones, the three looked relaxed, had some fun and seemed to enjoy themselves.  Watch the very beginning when Plant starts to laugh as he and Jimmy take the seats farther away, leaving Jones in the seat next to Letterman. An interesting comment, Letterman, on talking about the Kennedy Center Honors Gala, pointed out that Jimmy said to him during the show, "musicians like playing Led Zeppelin music."

Ramble On Radio's good friend Steve, The Lemon, Sauer was at the taping of the show. His report on it was posted on FBO.

Here's the Led Zeppelin portion of last nights David Letterman Show.

Robert Plant Goes "Into the New World"

A video was released yesterday on RobertPlant.com for the "Into The New World 2012" tour by his Sensational Space Shifters. First thought was a North American tour may be coming, but it may be a be a promo for the currently running South American tour. Here's the video:

Meanwhile, in Argentina Sunday night Plant was jumped onstage by a fan. As the band was ending the show a fan ran onstage and directly toward Plant. Plant saw him at the last minute and jumped out of the way, but not before the fan did make contact with a falling Plant. Security then made the exuberant fans night somewhat less than fun. Watch the video here at about 4:30.

Meanwhile, all the South American shows up to Sunday nights is now available for legal download via LiveDownloads.com.

Celebration Day

Audio And Video From Legendary 2007 Concert
To Be Available In Multiple Configurations On November 19

314275_10152082455220276_1350235277_nConcert Slated For Global Theatrical Release On October 17

(Los Angeles, Sept. 13, 2012) – On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London’s O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band’s signature blues-infused rock ’n’ roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalog including landmark tracks “Whole Lotta Love,” “Rock And Roll,” “Kashmir,” and “Stairway To Heaven.”

Although 20 million people applied for tickets, the band’s first headline show in 27 years was seen only by the 18,000 ticket holders who were fortunate enough to have secured seats through the worldwide lottery.

The film of Celebration Day will see a worldwide theatrical release by Omniverse Vision on 1,500 screens in over 40 territories on October 17. The theatrical screenings will follow premieres in London, Los Angeles, New York, and other major cities. Tickets for the public screenings will be available on September 13 via ledzeppelin.com.

Celebration Day will then be available in multiple video and audio formats on November 19 from Swan Song/Atlantic Records. Specific product details will be announced soon.

Battle of Evermore Cover

Shel is a band of 4 classically trained sisters, ranging in age from 18-23 who's debut album was released on August 7. The album features a wonderful version of Battle of Evermore.

Below is a live version of the song, and it is wonderfully done, I must say.

Immigrant Song Flash Mob at Stella McCartney Dinner

In the fashion world, designers throw dinners where top chefs ply writers, designers, models and other fashion VIPs with the best food. Add in a musical performance, often by a new up and coming act or guest who is not in performance mode, and you have a memorable night.

On Saturday Stella McCartney threw her dinner, and guests were treated to a flash mob by members of the Royal Ballet and 16 models, dancing to Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song. The performers all wore Stella McCartney, natch, and models Amber Valletta, Shalom Harlow, and Yasmin Le Bon were lifted in their chairs and carried to another table - they were presumably in on the fun.

The stunt was choreographed by Spanish choreographer Blanca Li.

The Girl With The Immigrant Song Tattoo

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series of books and movies has been some of the best of the past number of years. The first Dragon Tattoo movie was outstanding, even if in Swedish. Now they are remaking it for American audiences starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara.

I dislike Daniel Craig. I think his little man-boy version of James Bond is atrocious, pouty in lieu of tough. I consider the Bond franchise rather spoiled by him, and expect him to have similar effect on the "Girl With..." franchise.

The trailer for the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie was released last week, featuring Trent Reznor and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs performing Led Zeppelin's The Immigrant Song.

Lets just say, I'm no more optimistic about The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo today than I was yesterday.

Jimmy Page from the Ivor Novello's

Last week, I reported from the Ivor Novello Awards that Jimmy Page said his new website was ready, and music ready to launch. Today, a video emerges from the Ivor Novello's that tell a less enthusiastic story:

At the moment I'm constructing a website, because I've had the domain name JimmyPage.com, but I've not had a website. I'm constructing that, I think that'll bring a few surprisesto how things normally are. Once that's done, then I'm going to start working on the new music. It's a whole sort of, knock out effect.

So we'll see you playing soon

Let's hope so. That's the whole idea.

On a reunion, Page was more blunt: I don't know, you better ask the others... I was up to do the O2.

John Paul Jones and Seasick Steve Interview

Seasick Steve's newest album, You Can't Teach and Old Dog New Tricks, will feature a bass player for the first time in his five album career. The bass player? John Paul Jones.

I have previously posted the first two video's from the Later with Jules Holland: You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks and  I Don't Know Why She Love Me But She Do.
