In the 135th Ramble on Radio podcast I interview author Martin Popoff. Martin has authored over 50 books, including his latest Led Zeppelin:All the Albums, All the Songs. It's a beautiful book with tons of great pictures and full of thoughtful analysis of Led Zeppelin's musical legacy.
Over the last two podcasts I looked back on Led Zeppelin's 1977 tour of America which ended in violence in San Fransisco and then tragedy back in England with the death of Robert Plant's son, Karak.
Episode 131 of The Led Zeppelin Podcast starts before the tour even began, with Robert Plant developing laryngitis and a number of shows having to be cancelled, and runs through to the 6-show residency at New York's Madison Square Garden.
Episode 132 of The Led Zeppelin Podcast picks up with the end of the second leg of the tour when the band moves from the East coast to the West. Shows in San Diego and then another 6-night run, this time at The Forum in Los Angeles draw the second leg of the tour to an end. It then picks up in Seattle for the final leg of the tour, which would end after only four shows.
Black Country Communion, is premiering a song from their upcoming album BCCIV this morning. Collide is the opening track on the new album, and can be heard on Joe Bonamassa's Soundcloud.
Glenn Hughes commented on Collide:
I had written the riff to this song in the morning of the first day of writing BCCIV. Joe came over and I played him the riff, and we finished the song before lunch. I had a feeling that Collide would set the pace for the record.
The album, BCCIV, will get a worldwide release on CD and 2-LP vinyl (including a cool looking orange vinyl) on September 22. The tracklistiing is:
1. Collide
2. Over My Head
3. The Last Song For My Resting Place
4. Sway
5. The Cove
6. The Crow

9. Awake
10. When the Morning Comes
As well, the vinyl release will include a bonus track, With You I Go.
As well, the band has announced two UK in January. Details can be found at their official website.

Robert Plant joined violinist Nigel Kennedy onstage at the Royal Albert Hall Sunday night, and performed two songs, Hey Joe and Kashmir. It was the first time in his career that Plant has performed Kashmir without Jimmy Page to his left.
Last week it was announced that John Paul Jones would perform in Helsinki in April with composer Magnus Lindberg. It appears that in fact, Jones has formed a new group with Lindberg and cellist Anssi Karttunen called Tres Coyotes.
The band now has a logo, a webpage and it appears as though further dates will be coming.
Lindberg and Karttunen both come from the world of modern classical music. A listen to Karttunen performing Lindberg's Cello Concerto suggests a very modern approach, with soundscapes, fast, very fast runs and prominent use of dissonance, suggesting a group that will fall into the avant-garde style that Jones has previously worked in with Supersilent and Minibus Pimps.
However, with as much talent as will be assembled onstage, we can hold out hope for more than aural soundscapes and controlled noise. Thinking back to the late 70's early 80's when classical guitarist John Williams with Cliff Richards' guitarist Kevin Peek and former T-Rex bassist Herbie Flowers formed Sky. The band featured players that were all session musicians well versed in many styles, and played songs ranging from Bach to rock, with some jazz and other influences thrown in.
Tres Coyotes offers similar multi-style promise, but we'll have to wait until April to see what these three talented musicians have to offer together.
