Getting then Led Out

Caught the boys with Get the Led Out at the second oldest theatre in the United States, the Oneonta Theatre in Oneonta, New York. Camera in hand, I had the view of a lifetime, watching the band stage side, the crowd at my back. I've seen and reviewed Get the Led Out twice before, in Milwaukee last year, and at Irving Plaza in New York two years ago. They were excellent both those times, they may have gotten better in the interm.

My thought at shows end, after having audience members jump over my head to dance on the stage, was that Get the Led Out is likely the best tribute band out there.  I've since revised my view,  Get the Led Out is likely one of the best performing bands right now, of any kind, on any circuit.

That said, the plan on this occasion was to let the picture's do the talking, and as I got close to 200 good pictures (of the 1,500 taken), this is to be a picture post.

Note: This show was on October 5th. Sometime around October 17th, long time GTLO crew member, Andrew Cattaneo, passed away.

Here's Andrew, contributing musically to the bridge of Fool in the Rain.

Fleecing Led Zeppelin Crowdfunding Campaign

Filmmakers Jackie Maw Tolliver and Gabriel Tolliver have created a movie about the 1973 robbery of $203,000 ($1,069,302 inflation adjusted dollars) from Led Zeppelin's safe deposit box at the Drake Hotel in New York. The robbery features prominently in The Song Remains the Same, a concert movie filmed at the 1973 New York shows.

The Tolliver's movie has completed shooting and now needs to go into post production. The post production will cost $35,000 and they are attempting to raise that money through a crowd-funding campaign.

The campaign in 10% done, and they are hoping to raise the money by November 3rd. If you donate $20, or more, you will get a digital copy of the movie when it's released next March.

Good Times Bad Times in American Hustle Trailer

Led Zeppelin music has turned up in another movie trailer, as Good Times Bad Times is the background music for the trailer for American Hustle, due in theatres December:

Led Zeppelin music has appeared in a few trailers recently, including Kashmir in the trailer for Disney's John Carter and When the Levee Breaks was used in the trailer for Sucker Punch. In neither case did the songs make it to the final cut of the movie. Ben Affleck's Argo, however, did use When the Levee Breaks in the movie, but not in the trailer.

Heart's Stairway to Heaven released as an iTunes video

iTunes today released an alternate video of Heart's rendition of Stairway to Heaven from last December's Kennedy Center Honors in Washington. Heart, with Jason Bonham on drums, performed the song at the Kennedy Center Honors Gala in front of the surviving members of the group, past and present Kennedy Center Honorees and President and Mrs. Obama.

The song was previously released on iTunes as an MP3. This new release is an alternate video edit, different from the televised version that was previously broadcast and can be found on YouTube. It offers more shots of Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page, including a must see of Page loving the ending section, plus a shot of him mouthing the solo as it's being performed. Other highlight shots include Mrs. Obama enjoying the performance, Bonny Raitt with her hands up swaying to  the song, and classical cellist YoYo Ma flat out rocking during the solo.

You can get the video of Heart performing Stairway to Heaven at iTunes for $1.99.
